UK Visa System Moving Fully Digital by 2026
The UK is continuing its shift towards a fully digital immigration system. By the end of 2026:
All visa routes will be digital.
Travellers will need permission to travel before boarding.
Airlines and transport providers will verify this permission.
📌 Action for Students: Ensure your current passport is linked to your UKVI account to avoid travel delays.
2. Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) Required from 25 February 2026
From 25 February 2026, travellers who do not need a visa must apply for an
ETA before travelling.
Valid for stays up to 6 months
Valid for tourism, family visits, or short study stays
Application cost: £16
Processing time: usually minutes, but allow up to 3 days
🎓 Students already studying in the UK do not need an ETA.
3. High Potential Individual Visa Route Expanded for 2025
The UK has expanded the High Potential Individual (HPI) visa route, allowing more graduates from top global universities to live and work in the UK for:
2 years (Bachelor’s/Master’s)
